Jakarta, June 10, 2026 – The Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FISH UNJ), continues to expand its academic role in promoting dialogue, peace, and cooperation among civilizations. This commitment was reflected in the participation of the Dean of FISH UNJ, Assoc. Prof. H. Firdaus Wajdi, Ph.D., in the commemoration of the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, held at Nusantara V Building, Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta.
The international event was organized by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in collaboration with the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Parliamentary Caucus for World Peace. In addition to his role as Dean of FISH UNJ, Firdaus Wajdi attended the forum in his capacity as a member of the Commission for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation (HLNKI) of MUI Central Board.
The forum brought together various key stakeholders, including government officials, parliamentarians, religious leaders, academics, civil society organizations, and representatives of friendly countries. This cross-sectoral gathering served as a strategic platform to strengthen shared ideas on the importance of dialogue, collaboration, and respect for diversity as foundations for building global peace.
Several national figures were also present at the event, including Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, Hidayat Nur Wahid; Chairman of HLNKI MUI Central Board, Bunyan Saptomo; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Anis Matta; as well as ambassadors and representatives from friendly countries.
FISH UNJ’s participation in this forum highlights the important role of higher education institutions in strengthening intellectual diplomacy. Through the involvement of academics in international forums, universities not only function as centers of education and research, but also as actors that contribute to building intercultural understanding, expanding global networks, and generating ideas relevant to addressing humanitarian challenges.
Firdaus Wajdi stated that dialogue among civilizations must continue to be strengthened as a pathway to fostering mutual understanding amid social, religious, cultural, and geopolitical differences.
“Dialogue among civilizations is an important instrument to strengthen mutual understanding, reduce prejudice, and build more constructive cooperation among nations. As an academic institution, FISH UNJ has the responsibility to nurture scholarly traditions that uphold tolerance, humanity, respect for diversity, and peace,” said Firdaus Wajdi.
He further emphasized that global peace cannot be built solely through political diplomacy and intergovernmental relations, but also through education, research, cultural literacy, and the exchange of ideas. In this context, higher education institutions need to take a more active role in producing knowledge, research, and collaboration that can bridge differences within society.
During the forum, participants also highlighted Indonesia’s position as a country with long-standing experience in managing diversity. The values of Pancasila were viewed as an important foundation for strengthening moderation, fraternity, social justice, and harmony amid increasingly complex global challenges.
FISH UNJ’s involvement in this international event is also aligned with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education, SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. Through its participation in cross-national and cross-civilizational forums, FISH UNJ reinforces the contribution of higher education in advancing knowledge, humanitarian values, and collaborative networks that support sustainable development.
In relation to the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) of higher education, this participation also supports the strengthening of academic reputation, faculty engagement beyond campus, the expansion of strategic partnerships, and the internationalization of the faculty. The involvement of faculty leadership in global forums is part of FISH UNJ’s effort to enhance its recognition as an academic institution actively engaged in issues related to society, law, humanity, democracy, and peace.
In line with UNJ’s vision to become an excellent, globally reputable, and impactful university, FISH UNJ continues to encourage the participation of its academic community in various national and international collaboration platforms. Through forums such as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, FISH UNJ hopes to continue contributing to the development of a culture of peace, the strengthening of humanitarian solidarity, and the production of academic ideas that benefit the global community.
By strengthening intellectual diplomacy, inter-civilizational dialogue, and inter-institutional cooperation, FISH UNJ reaffirms its commitment to becoming part of a higher education ecosystem that is not only oriented toward academic excellence, but also toward social impact, justice, and world peace.
