Penang, May 7, 2026 — The Master’s Program in Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKN), Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FISH UNJ), held an international colloquium at the School of Social Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The activity was part of FISH UNJ’s efforts to strengthen higher education internationalization, expand academic networks in Southeast Asia, and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The international colloquium was attended by 22 students from the Master’s Program in PPKN UNJ and 8 students from the Master’s Program in Social Studies Education at Universitas Lampung. Participants took part in a series of academic activities, including seminars, scholarly presentations, and interactive discussions on social issues, civic education, education, and the dynamics of global society.
The activity was warmly welcomed by Associate Professor Mohamad Shaharudin Samsurinan, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at USM. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation for the implementation of this international academic forum, which brought together students, lecturers, and academics from Indonesia and Malaysia. He emphasized that cross-border collaboration is an important step in broadening students’ academic perspectives, fostering intercultural understanding, and strengthening institutional relations among higher education institutions in Southeast Asia.
Through this activity, students had the opportunity to present their ideas and academic studies in an international forum. This experience not only strengthened their academic communication skills, but also encouraged critical thinking, self-confidence, and students’ capacity to understand civic issues from a global perspective.
From the perspective of the SDGs, the international colloquium is aligned with SDG 4, which promotes inclusive, relevant, and quality education oriented toward the development of students’ global competencies. The forum also supports SDG 17 through the strengthening of academic partnerships between higher education institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia as part of sustainable educational collaboration.
For FISH UNJ, this activity represents a concrete contribution to strengthening the faculty’s international academic reputation through academic mobility, the exchange of scholarly ideas, and the development of educational and research collaborations. The PPKN Study Program of FISH UNJ remains committed to organizing academic activities that not only enhance disciplinary competence, but also contribute to shaping critical, reflective, and responsible global citizens.
With the successful implementation of this international colloquium, the PPKN Study Program of FISH UNJ hopes that cooperation with international higher education institutions, particularly Universiti Sains Malaysia, can continue to be strengthened through sustainable academic programs. This collaboration is expected to make a positive contribution to the development of civic education, the strengthening of Southeast Asian academic networks, and the enhancement of institutional competitiveness at the global level.
