Jakarta, July 22, 2026 — The Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FISH UNJ), through its Tourism Travel Management Study Program, strengthened industry-based education through the signing of a cooperation agreement with InJourney Hospitality. The agreement was signed on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the InJourney Hospitality office on the 12A Floor of the Sarinah Building, Jalan M.H. Thamrin No. 11, Central Jakarta.
InJourney Hospitality is part of the InJourney ecosystem, Indonesia’s state-owned holding company in the aviation and tourism sectors. The company focuses on managing and developing hospitality businesses, with a portfolio of hotels located across various strategic destinations throughout Indonesia.
Through the implementation of high service standards, innovation, and sustainable business practices, InJourney Hospitality contributes to the provision of quality accommodation services while supporting the competitiveness of Indonesia’s tourism sector. The company also actively develops partnerships with various stakeholders to strengthen human resource capacity, improve destination competitiveness, and promote sustainable tourism growth.
The collaboration between FISH UNJ and InJourney Hospitality is intended to expand opportunities for students to gain relevant and contextual industry-based learning experiences. The partnership may be implemented through internship programs, practitioner-led lectures, industry visits, student competency development, lecturer capacity building, curriculum review, collaborative research, and other academic and human resource development initiatives.
During the discussion, Dean of FISH UNJ Assoc. Prof. Firdaus Wajdi, Ph.D., raised the importance of strengthening synergy between higher education and industry, particularly in aligning the study program’s curriculum with current industry developments and workforce requirements. Curriculum alignment was viewed as a strategic step to ensure that graduates possess competencies that are relevant to the rapidly evolving tourism and hospitality sectors.
In response, InJourney Hospitality expressed its strong commitment to supporting the curriculum development of the Tourism Travel Management Study Program. The company welcomed the opportunity to assign its General Managers to visit the FISH UNJ campus and participate in reviewing the curriculum based on industry perspectives, operational experience, and professional competency needs.
With approximately 100 General Managers working across InJourney Hospitality’s hotel network throughout Indonesia, the company has a substantial pool of industry practitioners who may contribute their knowledge and experience to the academic development process. Their involvement is expected to provide valuable insights into hospitality operations, service management, leadership, human capital development, customer experience, and industry transformation.

Assoc. Prof. Firdaus Wajdi, Ph.D., stated that the partnership with InJourney Hospitality forms part of FISH UNJ’s strategy to develop higher education that is relevant, adaptive, and impactful.
“This cooperation is not merely about signing a document. It is about building a stronger bridge between academia and industry. FISH UNJ seeks to ensure that students have opportunities to learn from best practices, understand industry dynamics firsthand, and develop the professional competencies required by the tourism sector of the future,” said Assoc. Prof. Firdaus.
He emphasized that curriculum development should not take place in isolation from the world of work. The involvement of industry professionals is essential to ensure that learning outcomes, course content, practical activities, and student competencies remain aligned with actual professional demands.
“The willingness of InJourney Hospitality’s General Managers to contribute to our curriculum review is highly valuable. Their practical experience can enrich our academic perspective and help us prepare graduates who are not only academically capable but also ready to respond to real challenges in the tourism and hospitality industries,” he added.
InJourney Hospitality also expressed openness to developing collaborative research involving students and lecturers. This opportunity is expected to encourage applied research on issues relevant to the industry, including hospitality management, service innovation, customer experience, human resource development, digital transformation, destination development, and sustainable tourism practices.
“We hope this collaboration will produce tourism professionals who are competent, ethical, innovative, and committed to sustainability. Students must be prepared not only to enter the workforce but also to become part of a generation capable of transforming Indonesia’s tourism industry into a more advanced and globally competitive sector,” Assoc. Prof. Firdaus continued.
For the Tourism Travel Management Study Program at FISH UNJ, the partnership represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen contextual and practice-based learning. Students may gain direct exposure to operational management, customer service, destination development, human resource management, and the implementation of professional standards across the tourism and hospitality ecosystem.
The collaboration supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education through curriculum development and learning that are relevant to industry needs; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through the improvement of students’ employability and professional competencies; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strategic collaboration between higher education and industry.
As a follow-up, FISH UNJ and InJourney Hospitality will formulate measurable joint programs, including curriculum review involving industry practitioners, opportunities for collaborative research, internship development, practitioner engagement, and other initiatives that benefit students, lecturers, both institutions, and the wider tourism sector. The partnership also strengthens FISH UNJ’s contribution to Main Performance Indicator 5, particularly through the development of institutional partnerships and collaborative outcomes that improve educational quality and support human resource development in Indonesia.
