Jakarta, July 22, 2026 — The Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (FISH), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), organized the Bawaslu Campus Connect socialization program under the theme "Digital Generation, Transparent Democracy" in collaboration with the General Election Supervisory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI). Held at the Multipurpose Hall (RSG), Building K, UNJ Campus A, the event brought together the faculty leadership, lecturers, and students as part of a collaborative effort to strengthen participatory election oversight through higher education institutions.
The event commenced with opening remarks from the master of ceremonies, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem (Indonesia Raya) and the Bawaslu March, as well as an opening prayer. The event report was delivered by Henry Dwi Prastowo, who outlined the program agenda attended by the Rector of UNJ, Prof. Dr. Komarudin, M.Si.
In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Firdaus Wajdi, M.A., Ph.D., Dean of FISH UNJ, expressed his appreciation to the vice deans, lecturers, and students for their participation. He emphasized that the collaboration would create valuable learning opportunities for students. "Through this collaboration, we hope FISH UNJ students will have the opportunity to undertake internships at Bawaslu, particularly in the field of election data management," he stated.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Puadi, S.Pd., M.M., Member of Bawaslu RI, who highlighted the urgency of transforming election oversight in the digital era. He explained that political campaigns and the dissemination of political information have expanded beyond physical spaces into digital platforms such as TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube, requiring more adaptive and technology-driven supervision. "When misinformation can spread to millions of people within minutes, election oversight can no longer rely on conventional approaches. Bawaslu is now present in the digital space, and university students play a crucial role as digital literacy ambassadors in building future collaboration and public awareness," he emphasized.
Echoing this perspective, UNJ Rector Prof. Dr. Komarudin, M.Si. underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships between universities and public institutions. "Universities must establish meaningful collaborations with various institutions, particularly with Bawaslu as the leading authority in election oversight. We hope that every member of society, especially students who are increasingly engaged in political issues, will actively participate in safeguarding democracy," he remarked.
The opening session concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque from Dr. Puadi to Prof. Komarudin, followed by a group photo session. The program continued with a series of expert presentations moderated by Moh. Sitoh Anang, Expert Staff of Bawaslu RI, featuring five distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Tjipto Sumadi, M.Si., M.Pd. presented "Kolaboraksi: Campus and Bawaslu Synergy in Strengthening Participatory Democracy." Dr. Ferry Daud Liando, S.IP., M.Si. discussed "Meaningful Participation: Election Oversight through Technological Innovation and Digital Applications." Achmad Fachrudin, former Commissioner of Bawaslu Jakarta, delivered a session titled "Election Integrity in the Cyber Era: Challenges, Threats, and Mitigation." Rendy N.S. Umboh addressed "Digital Ethics in Political Contestation: Safeguarding Cyberspace from Hate Speech," while Muhammad Jufri, S.Sos., S.H., M.Si. presented "Bawaslu's Data and Information Center: Expanding Access and Ensuring Transparency."
This initiative reflects FISH UNJ's commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing students' digital literacy and democratic awareness, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through institutional collaboration between UNJ and Bawaslu RI to promote participatory election oversight. The program also supports UNJ's Key Performance Indicator (KPI/IKU) 3, which focuses on enriching students' off-campus learning experiences through internship opportunities and direct engagement with issues related to elections, governance, and digital democracy. Looking ahead, this partnership is expected to evolve into sustainable internship schemes and long-term digital literacy initiatives jointly developed by FISH UNJ and Bawaslu RI.
