FISH UNJ Prepares Students for the 2026 Election Law Enforcement Debate Competition

Jakarta, July 15, 2026 – The Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (FISH), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), organized a Socialization Session for the 2026 Election Law Enforcement Debate Competition (Kompetisi Debat Penegakan Hukum Pemilu VI Tahun 2026) in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu DKI Jakarta). Held in Room 212 of Building K, FISH UNJ, the event marked the faculty's initial step in preparing students to participate in the national debate competition organized by Bawaslu. The session was designed to strengthen participants' understanding of election law enforcement while equipping them academically before entering the selection and coaching stages.

The event was attended by the leadership of FISH UNJ, faculty members, representatives from Bawaslu DKI Jakarta, and students from the Departments of Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn), Communication Studies, and Law. Through this initiative, FISH UNJ aims to prepare students to compete effectively in a debate that focuses on election law enforcement. Beyond serving as a platform for developing critical thinking skills, the competition is expected to broaden students' understanding of democracy, electoral governance, and the rule of law in Indonesia.

In his opening remarks, Firdaus Wajdi, M.A., Ph.D., Dean of FISH UNJ, expressed his appreciation to Bawaslu DKI Jakarta for providing FISH UNJ students with the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the 2026 Election Law Enforcement Debate Competition. He emphasized that the competition's theme closely aligns with the academic disciplines represented within FISH UNJ, particularly the Departments of Law, Pancasila and Civic Education, and Communication Studies.

He further reaffirmed FISH UNJ's commitment to fostering student achievement through various academic competitions. Participation in the debate competition, he noted, not only strengthens students' critical thinking, argumentation, and communication skills but also contributes to the university's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by enhancing student achievement and academic excellence.

"We hope our students will take full advantage of this opportunity. Following this socialization session, the faculty will conduct an intensive selection process and coaching program to ensure that our participants are fully prepared to compete," said Firdaus Wajdi.

During the socialization session, Sakhroji, S.H., M.H., Member of Bawaslu DKI Jakarta, presented an overview of the 2026 Election Law Enforcement Debate Competition. His presentation covered the competition's objectives, implementation mechanisms, participant requirements, and the importance of mastering contemporary electoral issues in promoting a healthy democratic culture. He emphasized that the competition is intended not only as an academic contest but also as a means of strengthening students' understanding of election supervision and the implementation of election law enforcement within Indonesia's democratic system.

The session attracted enthusiastic participation from six students from the Department of Pancasila and Civic Education, three students from the Department of Communication Studies, and four students from the Department of Law. Participants actively engaged in discussions and raised questions regarding the competition's technical aspects as well as effective strategies for constructing persuasive legal arguments in electoral debates.

Through this initiative, FISH UNJ reaffirmed its commitment to cultivating an academic ecosystem that supports student competency development through both classroom learning and participation in prestigious national competitions. The upcoming internal selection process and intensive coaching program are expected to produce outstanding student representatives who are well prepared to compete in the 2026 Election Law Enforcement Debate Competition.

This initiative also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing educational quality and student competencies, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by strengthening young people's understanding of democracy, the rule of law, and electoral integrity. Furthermore, the program aligns with Indonesia's Higher Education Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 2, which promotes meaningful student learning experiences beyond the classroom through active participation in competency development programs and national academic competitions.
