Public Lecture with National Chung Cheng University Researcher Dr. Teddy Y.H. Sim Presents Scholarship Opportunities for UNJ Students

Jakarta, 23 April 2026 — Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) held a public lecture along with a scholarship information session on opportunities to study in Taiwan, delivered in an interactive and informative atmosphere. The event was attended directly by Dr. Teddy Y.H. Sim, Associate Researcher at National Chung Cheng University.

The program opened with remarks from Vice Dean I, Dr. Kurniawati, who emphasized the importance of broadening students’ global perspectives through international cooperation, particularly in the fields of education and research.

In the main session, the speaker delivered a presentation titled “The Relevance of the Island History of Taiwan for Emerging Scholarship and Researchers”which explored the historical development of Taiwan as an island region and its connection to maritime studies. The session also highlighted the historical and cultural links between Taiwan and Indonesia, including the maritime legacy of the Indonesian archipelago through the Sriwijaya and Majapahit kingdoms within the broader context of island studies.

The discussion, moderated by Sandy Allifiansyah, Ph.D., also addressed geographical, economic, and potential cooperation issues between Indonesia and Taiwan. Although formal diplomatic relations between the two sides remain limited, cooperation in the areas of economy and education continues to develop and provides tangible benefits for both parties.

During the scholarship information session, Dr. Teddy Sim explained that outstanding students have the opportunity to receive tuition support as part of the academic assistance offered by National Chung Cheng University. Participants showed strong enthusiasm during the question-and-answer session, raising various critical questions ranging from regional historical and political issues to practical information about studying in Taiwan.

Through this event, UNJ hopes that its students will become more open to international study opportunities and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of a global perspective in the development of knowledge.
