Subang, West Java – A team of lecturers from the Applied Bachelor Program in Travel Business, Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UPW FISH UNJ), conducted a community service program in Sukamandi Masagi Tourism Village, Subang Regency, West Java, on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Carrying the theme “Strengthening Human Resources in Sukamandi Tourism Village,” the program reflected the university’s commitment to supporting community-based tourism development. The activity was attended by various tourism stakeholders in the village, including the Head of Sukamandi Village, the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), homestay managers, youth organization members, the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), and women’s groups involved in village-based MSME activities.
The event ran smoothly and was marked by strong enthusiasm from the participants. It began with opening remarks from the Head of Sukamandi Village, Mr. Agus Setiawan. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the continuous attention given by Universitas Negeri Jakarta, particularly the Travel Business Program of FISH UNJ, to the development of Sukamandi Masagi Tourism Village. According to him, the assistance provided by UNJ since the early establishment of the tourism village has made an important contribution to identifying and developing various tourism potentials owned by Sukamandi Village. He also expressed his hope that the collaboration between Universitas Negeri Jakarta and Sukamandi Village would continue in a sustainable manner.
The lecturers involved in this community service activity were Jenal Abidin, S.Pd., M.M.Par., Lala Siti Sahara, M.Si., and Candra Karismawan, M.Par. In his presentation, Jenal Abidin emphasized the vital role of homestay owners as one of the key elements in village tourism activities, particularly in supporting educational tourism programs, which have become one of the main strengths of the tourism packages offered in Sukamandi Masagi Tourism Village. Homestays do not merely function as accommodation facilities, but also serve as spaces for cultural interaction, hospitality services, and direct experiences that allow visitors to understand the daily lives of local communities.
This community service program also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the enhancement of community knowledge and capacity in tourism village management; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, through the strengthening of local economic activities based on tourism, MSMEs, and homestays; and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, through the development of inclusive, sustainable, and locally based tourism villages. In addition, this activity also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it strengthens collaboration among higher education institutions, village government, tourism actors, BUMDes, youth groups, and local communities.
Through this activity, Universitas Negeri Jakarta hopes to continue strengthening the relationship between higher education institutions and society. This collaboration is expected to create a positive impact on improving human resource quality, strengthening tourism village institutions, and developing competitive and sustainable community-based tourism (UPW FISH).
